Shades of the Sea and Flame

“We blended and look to what it has brought us.

I planted lilies on your grave. The rain is already splattering them with dripping dew.

May they last another hundred years, Gerard.

A hundred years of lilies.”

― Raphael, “Blood Expanse”

The “Shades of the Sea and Flame” series may not have been our first writing endeavour, but on the timeline of transcribed events to befall the citizens of New Babylon, it is certainly THE first. Our first complete dive into the strange web of political madness and dark love that our minds divulged, the “Shades of the Sea and Flame” series is, in a sense, the pinnacle of our drive to write, and write, and write.

“Shades” is a series of five novellas that follow the dark shadows that haunt Ida Blanchefleur, headstrong heir to the bankrupt Blanchefleur fortune, married off to a decorated military man, in the hopes of securing a better future for her family.

The “Shades” series is the one free-standing series that gives some insight into the meaning behind the existence of the vampires of New Babylon. Where they come from, and how they came to be. Most specifically, it introduces our readers to the concept of immortality, as it stands for us, the writers of Sanguinem Emere. Most notably, is immortality desirable? Knowing it vicissitudes, would any sane person actually choose it?
